Powerful Yogurt is marketed as “the first high-protein Greek yogurt designed for the active lifestyle.” It comes in an 8 ounce cup while most other yogurts are 6 ounces. There is no sugar added and a whopping 21 grams of protein.
I simply couldn’t help but be attracted to the black container of Powerful Yogurt with the green highlights for the Key Lime flavor. But on the side is the disturbing picture of “abs” that looks like an XRay image … what is that doing on a yogurt container?! And what does “find your inner abs” have to do with yogurt?!
In my grocery store, Powerful Yogurt and Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt are placed side to side – and it’s hard to tell them apart. Both are black with have similar graphics.
❊ Taste & Texture
The Key Lime flavor of Powerful Yogurt is a bright lime green and I have to say it’s a bit off-putting to see lime green food. And it’s tart … really tart … but I liked it. However, one can only eat so much tart yogurt, and 8 ounces of this might just be too much – at least, it was for me. But, of course, you don’t have to eat it all at once, and you can use some to thicken (and add nutrients) to your smoothies.
❊ Serving Size and Nutritionals
Each 8 ounce cup of Powerful Key Lime Greek Yogurt provides 200 calories, 8 grams of total fat (12% of the daily value), 7 grams of sugars, 4 grams of fiber and 21 grams of protein. The ingredients list includes … yogurt (made from cultured pasteurized nonfat milk) – 7 Active Cultures: Slollol, Key Lime Blend: Water, Fructooligosaccharides, Lime Pulp, Corn Starch, Natural Flavor, Key Lime Puree, Vegetable Juice (Color), Sea Salt, Rebaudioside -A, Turmeric (color).
❊ Price / Worth It?
A container of Powerful Key Lime Greek Yogurt cost $1.48 at the time of purchase from my local grocery store, which is similar to most other yogurt brands. With no added sugar and a ton of protein, I would definitely buy this again. I’m excited to try some of the other flavors from this brand.
Have you tried Powerful Yogurt yet? Which flavor? What did you think?
